The Room

RECORDING, WITH POWER.

A 1950s building. A working studio since the late 1970s. James Brown, Joni Mitchell, Joe Cocker, The Beach Boys, Doobie Brothers, Phil Spector, Cher, Billy Joel, and Barbra Streisand all cut records here.

The 1978 Trident TSM in the control room came later, with its own history. It recorded Madonna's True Blue, mixed "Live to Tell," and cut records for Ambrosia and Michael McDonald. Next to it, a Neve 5400 from the BBC — the one that tracked Old Grey Whistle Test.

Bought in 2015 as an empty room. Refit from the floor up: control room, two live rooms, two iso booths, tape room, tech room, vinyl room. Plus a lounge, full kitchen, and shower — for sessions that don't end at six.

Now it's where Empire of the Sun, The Killers, Wolfmother, Neon Trees, and Louis XIV have recorded, and where David Fincher's Mindhunter (Netflix), Couples Therapy (Showtime), and Love, Death + Robots (Netflix) were scored.

Run by Jason Hill — composer, producer, founder of Louis XIV.
